HYROX gym finance: how UK gyms fund sleds, SkiErgs and a full functional fitness floor

16 July 2026 · 365AF

HYROX has become the fastest-growing fitness race in the world, and UK gyms are re-equipping to capture the demand. HYROX gym finance lets you fund sleds, SkiErgs, rowers, turf and a full functional floor with fixed monthly payments — so new members pay for the kit, not your cash reserves.

HYROX gym finance is one of the most common funding requests we now see from the fitness sector — and it's easy to see why. HYROX, the indoor fitness race combining running with eight functional workout stations, has exploded in the UK, with sell-out events in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow and hundreds of thousands of competitors worldwide. Every one of those athletes needs somewhere to train, and gyms that offer proper HYROX-style facilities are winning members from those that don't.

The catch: a genuine HYROX training setup is a serious capital investment. Kitting out a functional floor with sleds, SkiErgs, rowers and turf can easily run from £20,000 to £100,000+ depending on scale. Gym equipment finance spreads that cost over the working life of the kit, so the new memberships pay for the equipment — not your cash reserves.

What does a HYROX training floor actually need?

The eight HYROX race stations dictate the shopping list. To let members train the full race format, gyms typically invest in:

  • SkiErgs — the opening station of every race, and the machine members ask for first
  • Sleds and turf lanes — sled push and sled pull are the signature HYROX stations; a proper setup needs weighted sleds plus 15–20m of heavy-duty artificial turf
  • Rowing machines — a race station in its own right, and a staple of any conditioning floor
  • Wall balls, kettlebells and sandbags — for wall balls, farmers carry and sandbag lunges
  • Burpee broad jump and running capacity — open floor space, and for some sites, treadmills or an indoor running loop

Add flooring, rigs and storage and it's clear why most operators fund the package rather than pay cash. All of it — new or used, from any reputable supplier — can be financed. We arrange this type of funding for gyms and leisure businesses every week — and if you're starting from scratch, see our guide to opening a HYROX gym.

How HYROX gym finance works

Most gym operators use one of three products:

Hire purchase (HP)

A deposit (often 10%, sometimes nil), fixed monthly payments over two to five years, and you own the equipment outright at the end. HP suits durable kit you'll keep — sleds, rigs, plates and ergs hold up for years — and the equipment qualifies for capital allowances such as the Annual Investment Allowance. Finance lease

Rent the equipment over a primary term with the VAT spread across the monthly payments rather than paid up front — helpful on a large functional-floor package. At the end you can extend, upgrade to newer kit, or sell it on the lender's behalf. Leasing suits operators who refresh equipment on a cycle. Read more about finance lease →

Refinance and sale-and-leaseback

Established gyms often own their existing cardio and strength kit outright. Refinancing releases that value as a cash lump sum — many operators use it to fund a HYROX floor conversion, a studio refit or a second site without touching working capital.

Why gyms fund the HYROX floor rather than pay cash

  • The demand is now. HYROX events sell out months ahead. Gyms that move first capture the members — finance means you don't wait a year to save up.
  • Memberships repay the kit. A functional floor that adds even 40–50 members at £45–60/month typically covers the finance payment several times over.
  • Cash stays for operations. Rent, staff wages and marketing all demand cash. Finance keeps your buffer intact for the things lenders won't fund.
  • Used kit is fundable. Quality sleds, ergs and rigs hold value. Specialist lenders will fund good used equipment, not just new.

What does HYROX gym finance cost?

Your monthly payment depends on the equipment value, deposit, term and your trading profile. As a rough guide:

  • Deposit: typically 0–20%
  • Term: 2–5 years for functional equipment and flooring
  • Rates: vary by lender and risk — which is why comparing a whole panel matters

As a broker with a panel of 40+ specialist UK lenders — including funders who actively like the fitness sector — we place your deal with the lenders most likely to approve it at the keenest rate, rather than you taking the single answer your bank gives you.

New gyms and first-time operators

The HYROX boom is producing a wave of new functional fitness studios. A short trading history is not an automatic no: lenders will weigh the founders' industry experience, pre-sale membership numbers, the business plan and the quality of the assets being funded. A larger deposit or a director's guarantee may be asked for on a brand-new venture.

How to get approved quickly

To move fast, have these ready:

  1. A supplier quote or invoice for the equipment package
  2. Your business details (limited company, sole trader or partnership)
  3. Recent bank statements or accounts, for larger facilities

Most decisions come back the same day, and our soft-search eligibility check won't leave a mark on your credit file.
